English Angora Rabbits

Angora Rabbits
Breeding all year
We started when my then 5 year old daughter wanted one of my friends cute bunnies. We had just bought our farm and it seemed easy so I said yes. We had Mr.Bunny for a year by the time I decided that I really liked having rabbits around, my daughter by then had totally moved on.
I now have at least 6 breeding does at anytime.
I breed all year long call 780-268-9536 or email almostafarmstore@gmail.com if your interested in having a fluffy friend in your life!

Breed: English Angora
Life Span: 7-10 years
Adult Weight: up to 3kgs+ (parental weight will give you a good guide of offspring size)
Personality: Sociable (with human & rabbit), Loving, Laid Back & easy going, Good Natured, Confident around other household pets. The cats really get along with them well but you really need to be careful with dogs! Our chihuahua are ok with them but our big outside dogs are not trusted with them at all.
Coat: Wool, continually growing, requires daily grooming and clipping/sheering three times per year.
Time Spent Grooming: half an hour brushing every 2-3 days (time spent dependent on wool length/housing setup), 2 hours sheering wool every three months.
Wool Uses: Save up Angora wool for spinning to use in crafts (felting/needlework etc) or to sell.
Sex Differences: The biggest difference I have notice after having these rabbits for 5 years is that the males are normally nicer. More interested in people and definitely easier to form new groups of them. I normally have two pens of boys, one for the big guys and one for the little ones. Girls I have to have at least four pens because some just will not get long with anyone.
Indoor or Outdoor: Both suitable. Indoor bunnies are much more integrated into family life and seem to bond more solidly with their primary care giver. This is not what we do. We have a lot of outdoor space and very little indoor space so all our bunnies live outside. They are covered in wool so stay warm in our norther Alberta weather. I make sure they have shelter from wind and snow. Then they get lots of straw to make more spaces with. With this set up I do not do a lot of grooming during the winter because I want them to keep as much wool on as they can. In the spring they get a good hair cut!
Ultimately, what you put into the relationship is what you get out, but living arrangements can either help or hinder depending on your goals.
